Americans are changing the way they look at the backyard patio. They are beginning to bring the comforts of the indoors outside. Michelle Snyder of the American Society of Interior designs told MSN, "it's about creating a unified space between inside and outside."

For many homeowners this means bringing upscale items to their backyard patio. Items include fireplaces and kitchens. Kitchens can cost as much a as $65,000 and can even come with brick pizza ovens.

Hot trends for outdoor patios include buying items that are built to last. For example stainless steel appliances can handle the elements. Also, if you don't have a high budget make the best use of what you've got by adding a touch of decor and maximizing unused space.
